When Sip Happens –

Our new wine and spirits creative manager is bringing you the booze, the business and other good stuff. From food pairings to music to social justice, @whensiphappens will be your source for the good “good” I decided to start a podcast session to relieve some of the stress and anxiousness about being stuck in the house all day! Starting with my episode I will drop tomorrow about Coronavirus! Each week I will get a topic from a friend and give my views on it! Stay tuned! Or tune in Sept 3rd. -Blake @whensiphappens

HOW TO DRINK safely

SOME RULES FOR FOLKS from NORTH CAROLINA BEER & WINE WHOLESALERS ASSOCIATION Make certain alcohol is consumed by those of legal drinking age only. Make a list of taxicab services and phone numbers in your community. Always serve food with alcohol. Good food not only complements the beverages your guests are consuming but it also moderates the effects of alcohol. In addition to alcohol beverages, provide a variety of drinks including coffee, soft drinks, fruit juice, bottle water and non-alcoholic beer. Never force licensed beverages on your guests. Spacing drinks can help guests stay within their personal limits. Encourage moderate consumption by deciding ahead of time the amount of alcohol beverages to include. Consider how long your event will last and calculate about one drink per hour for each guest. A “drink” is defined as 1.5 ounces of hard liquor, 5 ounces of table wine, 3 ounces of fortified wine, or 12 ounces…

TapCork: Durham – July 27th!!

TapCork Durham is the first of what will be an annual festival of adult beverages, food and music — DJ and live performances. North Carolina is a hub for craft beer and good commercial brands. The state is also home to great regional wineries, too. NC is a forgotten space but not to the neighbors of Full Steam in Durham or Spaceway in Asheville. Expect regional favorites and a special presentation of Black Diaspora beverages! TapCork: Durham . July 27th . 3pm-9pm . Durham Central Park hosted by Dasan Ahanu & Church For tickets: bit.ly/tapcorkdurham

The Throwback

Celeset Beatty, from Harlem Brewing, is THE pioneer. This excerpt from Arise shows (1) Black producers are on the cutting edge for tech and taste; (2) beer is NOT set to one specific culture, but is global and ancestral across numerous cultures; (3) TapCork is gonna have at least two of Harlem Brewing’s products on hand! – Mgmt

Aug 10th We #DrinkBetter & #DanceBetter

Tap+Cork is different. It is not a stodgy tasting. It is not a wild party. It is a combination. It is a Brooklyn Block Party with some of the best craft, artisanal and small batch adult beverages. Plus the food comes from amazing local and regional spaces — caterers, food trucks and bars/restaurants that serve the beverages we are pouring. More information is coming. Stay tuned cause the first 300 tickets will be CHEAPER than cheap! -Tai

Last Summer

We could not find a suitable space for The Brooklyn Beer & Wine Fest but Tap+Cork stayed busy. We curated festival experiences with amazing partners in NYC, AfroLatino Festival, and Springfield (MA), the Indie Soul Festival. AfroLatino x Tap+Cork presented La Bebida. This was a journey into beverages, craft and commercial, that hailed from Black and Brown creators or nations. A celebration of the brewing story from a different perspective. The event featured sparking wine from Miolo (Brazil & Black America), Presidente (Dominican Republic), White Lion (Craft/Black America), Prestige (Haiti) and others. At the Indie Soul Festival, Tap+Cork was tasked with creating a craft experience. The great music from classic and indie artists created the mood the beverages quenched the thirsts. The event featured White Lion (Craft), Royal Jamaican Ginger Beer (Jamaica), Revolution (Craft/America), Day of The Dead (Mexico), Rhythm Brewery (Craft/America).

TapNite Out

I am excited about this program. It is finally being helmed by an expert. It is finally getting its proper attention. DJ Dot Ichiro is leading the curation and the music. More dancing, eating and, of course, imbibing/drinking/sippin’! And, more to come! -tai
